St. Elmo ‘Extensions’ Coming to The Yard in Fishers

Wednesday, December 13, 2017 11:55 AM EDT Updated: Wednesday, December 13, 2017 04:13 PM EDT
By Dan McGowan and Andy Ober

The first two tenants of The Yard in Fishers will come from a familiar name on the Indiana dining scene. St. Elmo Co-Proprietor Craig Huse says new 1933 Lounge and Burger Study locations will open at the $40 million food and entertainment district in July of 2019. "Fishers residents are already at 1933 and St. Elmo and Harry & Izzy’s downtown (in Indianapolis) and you have so many great employers," Huse said. "It was really just a natural move for us."

In a Studio(i) interview, Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said the "regional icon" will satisfy residents’ hunger for local dining options.

Development of the Yard is being led by Terre Haute-based Thompson Thrift Retail Group and plans call for more than a dozen restaurants and a hotel. Details were initially unveiled last December and at the time, high-profile attractions around it including IKEA Top Golf and Portillo’s had not yet opened. Huse adds "things are progressing up in Fishers and we wanted to be a part of that."

The Yard will also feature a culinary accelerator, which Fadness says plays into the city’s strategy to be an entrepreneurial community. He expects the city to release more details about what that accelerator will look like in the coming months, but says putting aspiring restaurateurs in the same development as an iconic brand like St. Elmo will create a "unique dynamic."

Mayor Scott Fadness sat down with Huse at the original 1933 location in Indianapolis to talk about the decision to branch out to Fishers:
