INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sports Indiana will expand its membership to include all sports-affiliated organizations. The announcement was made today by Jim Dietz, president of Sports Indiana, at the Hoosier Hospitality Conference in South Bend, Ind. Membership in Sports Indiana will now be available to representatives of National Governing Bodies and Rights Holders, venue operators such as Parks & Recreation Departments, high schools, colleges, universities, and privately-run sports facilities, government entities, sports associations, and businesses serving the needs of the sports tourism industry. Membership had previously been restricted to Sports Commissions and Convention and Visitor Bureaus in Indiana.
“The sports tourism industry is all about relationships; it's what contributes to our success and longevity in the industry and there is no better way to establish and maintain relationships than to surround yourself and interact with people who have been successful,” said Dietz.
“That's what Sports Indiana is all about, providing an opportunity to associate with the people who have a proven track record in sports tourism, the ones that have been successful on the grass roots level. I would encourage anyone who is seriously thinking about improving their tourism through sports to get involved with Sports Indiana.”
Since 2008, Sports Indiana has awarded $188,900 in matching grants that have resulted in 182,470 visiting athletes and spectators throughout the State of Indiana. Funding has been provided by the State of Indiana through the Indiana Office of Tourism Development in partnership with the Indiana Sports Corp. Sports Indiana is a not-for-profit organization comprised of communities throughout the state working together to market Indiana as a foremost destination for travel sports.
