Organizers hope to raise $2.5 million for the facility, which will honor area baseball, basketball, football and golf greats, as well as house a first-of-its-kind National Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame.
Chief Executive Officer Tim Turpin said during the capital campaign launch Wednesday "we will be a destination." Plans call for the property to include a lake and fountain and the 10,000 square-foot facility, which will house the exhibits and rentable banquet hall space for 150 guests. "It’s not only going to be a community museum type of building, but it should be a functional building," Turpin said.
A groundbreaking could take place within a year and organizers hope to open the attraction in 2020. Proceeds from fundraising will cover the cost of construction, as well as an endowment to sustain the halls and offer scholarships.
