Special Olympics Indiana Begins CEO Search

Michael Furnish was named president and CEO in 2007.

The board of directors for Special Olympics Indiana has begun a nationwide search for the organization’s next president and chief executive officer. The person selected for the position will succeed Michael Furnish, who will resign as CEO in December after 10 years leading the organization.

SOIN says Furnish’s successor will be responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management and fundraising efforts for the organization and will report to the board of directors. When he announced his resignation, Furnish said whoever is chosen to follow him will step into a strong foundation created by SOIN’s board, staff and volunteer leaders.

"There has never been a time in our history that I have been more optimistic about the possibilities and the future," Furnish said in a news release. "The organization is thriving, as we continue to expand our sports program, support exponential growth in schools, bring athletes up as leaders, and dedicate ourselves to the health and fitness of athletes."

Furnish joined the Special Olympics in 1973 as a volunteer and was hired by the organization in 1990. He was named president and CEO in 2007.
