INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The FACE Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic and IndyFeral have been awarded $500,000 from the Joanie Bernard Foundation, Fifth Third Bank Trustee to promote feline welfare. This gift will help expand the community cat program already in place. “This generous gift from the Bernard Foundation will allow us to continue to provide resources for residents that care for neighborhood cats,” said Lisa Tudor, director, Community Cat Program.
“We must continue to provide aggressive spay /neuter programs, increased services, resources, and funding or stray and unowned cats will continue to be a significant source of shelter intake and suffering on the streets. These funds will further our mission to create a safer place for all cats in our community.”
More people own cats than any other pet in the United States, but in Indianapolis, like many cities, the funding for the protection and care of dogs far outweigh what is allocated to cats. The burden then falls on the nonprofit sector to handle what is essentially a community issue.
The FACE Low-Cost Spay/Neuter clinic is the only organization in Indy committed to helping community cats. The FACE Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic and IndyFeral operate a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program that encourages Indianapolis residents to bring in stray and un-owned cats. These cats are spayed or neutered; vaccinated; receive any necessary medical care; and are returned to the location they were found. TNR is proven to lower the population of stray and un-owned cats while keeping them out of the city shelter.
About the Bernard Foundation:
The Joanie Bernard Foundation, Fifth Third Bank Trustee was established to eradicate the need for and practice of killing of cats. Concentrating initially on the Greater Cincinnati area, the Foundation forwards the aim of various organizations to care for cats in shelters, aid in the care for feral cat communities, educate the public about the benefits of spaying/neutering, and fund clinics that perform spay/neuter services.

FACE is a 501 (3) (c) not-for-profit organization committed to ending pet overpopulation in the Indianapolis area. IndyFeral is a program of FACE.
