South Bend Mayor James Mueller has appointed Maurice “Moe” Scott as director of community initiatives. Scott most recently served as director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center.

The newly-created position focuses on working with at-risk teens, assisting with group violence intervention and overseeing the community initiatives fund.

Scott also served as an Air Force medic during Operation Desert Storm. After his military service, he attended Ancilla College and then began his career in South Bend’s Parks & Recreation Department, now called Venues Park & Arts.
