South Bend Airport to cut ribbon on $7.3M facility

South Bend International Airport will cut the ribbon Tuesday on its new Consolidated Quick Turnaround Facility, or QTA.
The $7.3 million facility is designed to allow the airport’s rental car operators to perform back-of-house services more efficiently.
The QTA, which took about 14 months to complete, includes automated car washes, four detail bays, four service bays, and a 10,000-gallon fuel farm for its rental car operators, which include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise and National.
Airport CEO and Executive Director Mike Daigle said in a news release that QTAs are a growing trend at airports across the country.
“As SBN has grown, we knew we needed to consolidate rental car operations into one facility,” Daigle said. “This allows for increased safety as it removes operational rental car traffic from the airport’s front drive and provides faster turnaround which is vital during peak travel times like football season.”
The airport added that the facility creates additional capacity for other rental car companies to consider doing business on-site.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, scheduled for 1 p.m., will include remarks from South Bend Mayor James Mueller, as well as representatives of the St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board, St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners and South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce.
