The affiliation will give the nonprofit access to GRAMMY Museum exhibitions, technical support and research programs.
The affiliation will also give the foundation access to educational initiatives, which executive director Chris Lewis says brings exciting possibilities to the foundation’s own educational and outreach programs. The Great American Songbook Foundation is housed at the Palladium in Carmel, and features and exhibition gallery and also maintains the Songbook Archives & Library, which includes more than 100,000 documents, images, recordings and artifacts.
"The Songbook Archives is a one-of-a-kind repository preserving the legacy of an enormously important era in music," said Bob Santelli, founding executive director of the GRAMMY Museum. “We are very pleased to welcome this organization into our affiliate network and help broaden its impact for musicians, students, historians and all devotees of American music.”
Santelli presented a plaque Wednesday in Carmel to Chris Lewis, executive director of the Great American Songbook Foundation. The presentation also featured Songbook Foundation Founder Michael Feinstein, Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard and Jeffrey McDermott, interim chief executive officer of the Center for the Performing Arts.
The other Cultural Affiliates of the GRAMMY Museum include the Bob Marley Museum in Jamaica, the Woody Guthrie Center in Oklahoma, the Beatles Story in England and the National Blues Museum in St. Louis.
