A youth soccer event is expected to benefit the southwest Indiana economy. The Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau says the 2015 Veterans Invitational Soccer Tournament will result in more than $700,000 in direct visitor spending. Games will start Friday and take place over the next two weekends.
Organizers expect more than 100 teams from five states to participate. The girls and boys tournaments will be held at the Goebel Soccer Complex and involve players from 12-18 years-old.
The CVB says team registrations are down from previous years. They add that "organizers are confident that the tournament will grow in the future."
