A performer who grew up in Indianapolis has been chosen for a role on one of television's best-known shows. Sasheer Zamata will join the cast of “Saturday Night Live” as a featured player. Our partners at WTHR-TV, which airs the show in Indianapolis, report Zamata is a 2004 graduate of Pike High School.

She arrives as the iconic television show is under criticism for a lock of diversity on the cast.

Zamata will be the first black female cast member since 2007.

She is a University of Virginia graduate.

NEW YORK – “Saturday Night Live” adds Sasheer Zamata to the cast as a featured player. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Zamata trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York.
