SnapShyft says it plans to invest $433,000 into establishing a headquarters at the downtown Indy location of The Speak Easy and add 40 jobs over the next two years. The company officially launched in 2016 after winning the inaugural Indy Startup Challenge. During an interview with Inside INdiana Business in September, co-founders Stephanie Corliss and Thor Wood discussed the need to connect employers with workers on-demand.
The company says close to 200 venues have created accounts and over 1,500 professionals throughout Greater Indianapolis have downloaded the app. It also has a national footprint, with downloads in more than 40 states. The company plans to expand into Bloomington, Greater Lafayette and Muncie, as well as more than four other major metropolitan areas outside the state by year’s end.
Wood says "after months reviewing various metro areas that fit our criteria for growth, Indianapolis rocketed to the top of the list with the tremendous growth in tech witnessed since 2010 and being ranked at or near the top in a number of event-based and tourism-related business categories. Being in or near downtown Indianapolis was a true no-brainer for the team, housing more than 400 food and beverage venues, an amazing pool of tech talent, and access to surrounding markets like Fishers, Carmel and Greenwood."
The new positions, SnapShyft says, are expected to pay average wages higher than the Marion County average. Avail Productivity Systems, which does business as SnapShyft, has been offered up to $450,000 in conditional tax credits and training grants through the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
