News Release
SAINT-MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) and The Indiana Horse Council present the 6th annual Mane Event – Equine Professional Applications, an equine networking opportunity and student job fair, on Fri., Feb. 27, 2015.
This unique program will provide equine students the opportunity to meet horse professionals as well as prospective employers and to learn about volunteer positions, internships, part-time and full-time employment opportunities. The Mane Event includes panel discussion with equine service providers, networking, student job fair, buffet lunch ($20/person) and exhibit space to recruit and promote your organization.
“Members of the Indiana Horse Council, the recruiters and professionals that attend have been in the horse world for decades. They’ve lived it. They know people,” states Tara Lane, SMWC employer relations coordinator. “Sharing their knowledge, experience and contacts with our students is a wonderful gift to The Woods.”
Attendees will hear from professionals in the equine industry during the panel discussion. Panelists – Marcee Everly of Centerline Stables, Dr. Katy Portwood of Hendricks County Animal Hospital and Sherry Sunden of 2High Dollar Ranch – will discuss equine services from the providers’ experience as well as tips for clients.
Exhibitors will also be available to speak to students about opportunities at their organizations. Exhibitors at this year’s event include Flat Rock River YMCA Camp, Taylor Turn Stable, Agape Therapeutic Riding Center, Equine LEAD, LLC and more. Generally, over 20 exhibitors participate in the Mane Event.
SMWC is the only equine program in Indiana, and one of only 20 in the country to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in equine studies. The College also offers areas of study in equine business management, equine science and equine training and instruction, as well as a minor in equine assisted therapy.
The event will take place in Le Fer Hall Ballroom on SMWC campus from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. To register to attend, visit the Mane Event.
