He succeeds John Patten, who was recently promoted to president. Brodin has been with the company since 2001, most recently serving as chief technology officer.
Chief Executive Officer Darby McCarty says Brodin’s recent responsibilities have already involved much of the duties performed by COO. She adds "Dave has led multiple technology and development initiatives that have significantly raised the bar at Smithville. From a network technology perspective, Smithville has grown to match or exceed our competitor’s platforms under Dave’s technology leadership, which gives us a real advantage for both our business and residential customers."
Smithville says Brodin has led or launched several major projects over the last five years, including the fiber overbuild taking place in Jasper, deployment of a 17-node DWDM ring for residential and business services in southern Indiana and an initiative that helped reduced bandwidth costs by 29 percent and increased network capacity by 160 percent.
The company serves about 23,000 business and residential customers in southern and central Indiana.
