Small Communities Secure Federal Grants

Subscribe NowLieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann has detailed more than $4.7 million in grants for projects in 18 Hoosier communities. The federal funding, distributed through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, will support quality-of-life and blight elimination efforts throughout the state.
Public Facilities Program and Blight Clearance Program funds are from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant initiative.
Ellspermann says "the PFP and BCP grants are essential for smaller communities throughout our state to purchase, expand or improve vital equipment and facilities that ensure public safety and enhance the quality of life for our citizens." The state says the funding can help spur economic development opportunities.
The Indiana communities receiving PFP funds are:
- Oxford- Purchase a new pumper fire truck- $150,000
- Greencastle- Rehabilitation of city’s fire station- $400,000
- Edinburgh- Historic preservation of the Blue River Building- $400,000
- Goodland- Construction of a new fire station- $400,000
- Gas City- Expand and make improvements to Hontz Hall Community Center- $400,000
- Van Buren- Build a new fire station- $400,000
- Boswell- Purchase a new pumper fire truck- $150,000
- Versailles- Historic preservation of the Tyson Auditorium- $352,300
- LaGrange County- Make improvements to Senior Center- $400,000
- Jay County- Senior Center addition to the Boys and Girls Club- $542,197
- Rushville- Address ADA accessibility for building that will become the new Rushville City Center- $280,000
- Redkey- Construction of new fire station- $445,000
- Daviess County- Address ADA accessibility for county courthouse- $400,000
The Indiana communities receiving BCP grants are:
- Veedersburg- Demolition of the Old Fast Lane Restaurant buildings- $150,000
- Shelburn- Demolition of the old Hagen Manufacturing Facility site- $150,000
- Spencer County- Demolition and clearance the old jail site- $150,000
- Crawford County- Clearance of former county jail- $116,000
