SIA to Host STEM Campout

Organizers say activities will focus on areas including aeronautics, robotics and chemistry.

What: Central Indiana Boy Scouts and adult volunteers from the Sagamore Council Boy Scouts of America are participating in a Camporee being held on the grounds of Subaru of Indiana Automotive this weekend. The three-day Boy Scout campout is part of the new initiative: STEM focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
When: Sept. 27 ?V 29, 2013 with main activities taking place Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Background:
In an effort to further promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics in our youth today, the Indiana Department of Education and Eli Lilly Company joined forces to create I-STEM to reform science education in Indiana.
Scouting has offered STEM-based education long before the term became popular.
Through activities such as this Camporee, Scouting is giving the youth in our area not only the opportunity for STEM-based experiences, but also the ability to interact with STEM professionals such as those at SIA.
This event, made possible by the generous support from SIA Associates and volunteers, will enable local youth to receive first-hand STEM exposure in a unique, hands-on environment.
