An auto supplier in Elwood has detailed a $111 million expansion to meet demand from one of its biggest customers, Lafayette-based Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. ELSA Corp. says it plans to add 114 jobs and two production lines to support SIA’s growth that includes production of the 2017 Impreza.
The company is a subsidiary of Japan-based Sakamoto Industries and currently employs 350 in Madison County. Build-out of the first phase was completed last year and construction of a second addition will begin this month. The new operations will accommodate additional fuel tank, exhaust system, air cleaner and air duct components for SIA’s Subaru Legacy, Outback and Impreza production. Production is set to double at the facility once expansion is complete.
Governor Mike Pence says "more than 500 automotive suppliers like ELSA operate here, building cars and trucks used across the globe and helping Hoosier businesses add more than 161,000 new jobs in Indiana since 2013."
Elsa has added more than 80 workers in the last month alone and is seeking additional engineers, support staff and assembly technicians. Its clients also include Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana Inc. in Princeton. The company has been offered up to $500,000 in conditional tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
