SIA Credits State, Work Force For Milestone

Subscribe NowAs Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. prepares to roll out its four millionth vehicle this afternoon, Executive Vice President Tom Easterday says Indiana has been a “perfect” spot for the automaker to grow. He says the state's location, technical training programs and “very favorable tax climate” have enabled the company to reach the milestone. SIA's parent company, Japan-based Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., announced plans in May to build the Subaru Impreza at the facility and add up to 900 jobs by 2016. SIA produced its three millionth vehicle in September 2009, and has taken less than four years to reach four million. Easterday believes an improving market and the expansions at the plant will mean an even shorter path to its five millionth vehicle.
In May of 2012, SIA announced a $75 million expansion to help keep up with increasing demand for the Subaru Outback and Legacy. At the time, the automaker said the move would create 100 jobs at the plant.
