Education Producer

Shannon Cagle Dawson joined Inside INdiana Business in January of 2013, producing education-related content and the quarterly INpower e-newsletter.

Prior to joining IIB, Shannon had been a news producer at WYOU in Scranton, PA, WSLS in Roanoke, VA, and WTTV Indianapolis. She produced news and special projects and hosted her own gardening and home improvement segments during her 15 year tenure at WISH-TV in Indianapolis.  She continues to produce political and documentary programming for WFYI Public Media on both the television and radio sides. She has also been an adjunct professor for 20 years at her alma mater of Butler University, teaching broadcasting and writing courses.

Shannon has earned numerous awards for her work from NATAS, the Associate Press, and SPJ. She was named the Indiana Working Woman of the Year in 2010 by the Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Women, serves as the volunteer chair of communications for the Central Indiana Chapter of the March of Dimes, is a member of several Indiana charitable agencies at both the local and state levels, and recently joined the founding board of the Mays Community Academy charter school.

She and her children live on a historic farm in rural Rush County.

5 Questions For Shannon:

1. Where can we find you when you're not working?

At home on our historic rural Rush Co farm or trying one of the new locally-owned restaurants around Central Indiana.

2. If you weren't doing what you do today, what other job would you have?

Working with a program to feed Indiana's hungry children, or maybe copy-editing novels. I have a passion for both children and books.

3. Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car? Why?

All are fun, but I prefer driving because it's fun, and it seems like I'm always in a hurry to get somewhere.

4. What would you do if you won the lottery?

I would make sure my mother was set for the rest of her life, pay off my bills, restore my old farmhouse, and set up an endowment so I could keep funding the organizations I support.

And then, TRAVEL!

5. What three items would you take with you on a deserted island?

Sunscreen and books!
