Scotty’s Earns National Recognition

Indianapolis-based Scotty’s Brewhouse has won a national awarded for its history of supporting people with disabilities. The restaurant chain is one of 18 winners of the Ruderman Family Foundation’s Best in Business Award.

Scotty’s says it will continue to hire people with disabilities with plants to increase hiring up to 10 percent of all employees next year. Founder Scott Wise recently opened a second location for the chain’s sister restaurant, Thr3e Wise Men, inside the Courtyard Hotel in Muncie, which serves as a training ground for students with disabilities at the Erskine Green Training Institute. 

"There are tears that we see when an employee with a disability is given their first paycheck, or told ‘you are hired!’ or even given their first uniform…You are met with such incredible excitement and smiles," said Wise. "It is so beautiful to see that kind of appreciation from someone — it is a true testament of ‘thank you for giving me a chance, I won’t let you down.’"

Next month, Scotty’s will celebrate its 20th year in business. The first Scotty’s Brewhouse location opened in Muncie in 1996. The restaurant will have 19 locations in the Midwest and Florida following the fall openings of its latest restaurants in Plainfield, Oxford, Ohio and Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.
