Schurz Communications Beefs Up Broadband Portfolio

Mishawaka-based Schurz Communications Inc. has closed on its acquisition of Minnesota-based Hiawatha Broadband Communications. The deal for the fiber optic broadband provider continues diversification efforts by Schurz, which now includes broadband, newspaper publishing, cloud managed services, and digital media properties.
Including HBC, Schurz owns a total of four broadband providers: Antietam Broadband in Maryland, Orbitel Communications Arizona and Long Lines Broadband in Iowa. Last month, the company announced the acquisition of Michigan-based Online Tech LLC, which owns seven data centers in Indiana, Michigan and Missouri.
Chief Executive Officer Todd Schurz says "we are pleased to welcome HBC to the Schurz family of companies. HBC offers the winning combination of great customers, talented employees, growing communities and strong brand equity. We look forward to our future together." Schurz says the HBC brand and management team will remain in place in Winona, Minnesota.
