Mishawaka-based Schurz Communications Inc. is continuing a transformation. The media company, which divested itself from the radio and television business in 2016, has acquired Online Tech LLC of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Online Tech owns seven data centers in Indianapolis, Michigan and Missouri, and offers hybrid cloud services throughout the Midwest.
Schurz continues to own a portfolio of 18 newspapers, including The Times-Mail in Bedford, The Herald Times in Bloomington, The Reporter Times in Martinsville, The Mooresville-Decatur Times in Mooresville and the South Bend Tribune, plus broadband providers in Maryland, Iowa and Arizona.
Chief Executive Officer Todd Schurz says "the question we were grappling with after the sale of our broadcast properties was: How do we position the company for growth for future generations? We were looking for something that aligned with our values and our core competencies but also was in an exciting and high growth area that we could build upon. The cloud represents all of that for us."
The company says it considered "numerous options" before deciding to acquire Online Tech, which "emerged as the clear favorite." Schurz adds "Online Tech represents one of the most exciting opportunities in the cloud market today. The strong and proven management team has ambitious goals in this rapidly growing industry and we are excited to provide the support necessary to achieve them."
Following the deal, Online Tech says it plans to expand into underserved markets throughout the U.S. You can connect to more about the deal by clicking here.
