The university says the network is designed to help rural Indiana schools quickly implement the early college high school model, which give students the opportunity to earn college credit.
The RECN was established by UIndy’s Center for Excellence in Leadership of Learning. As part of the cohort, each of the five schools will receive $120,000 over three years as they work with CELL and a mentor high school.
The final cohort of schools includes:
- Frontier Jr-Sr High School (Chalmers)
- Seeger Memorial Jr-Sr High School (Lebanon)
- Shoals Community High School (Shoals)
- Southridge High School (Huntingburg)
- Sheridan High School (Sheridan)
UIndy says the schools can use the funding for teacher credentialing for dual credit instruction, professional development, and additional items they may need to support students and staff.
“Funding and support provided to these schools will help to develop Early College programming for underserved students, allowing them to earn a high school diploma with up to two years of college credits,” said Carey Dahncke, executive director of CELL. “Our team is excited to work with the educators at these five schools to support innovative opportunities for Hoosier students.”
The RECN was established with a nearly $8 million grant from the federal Education Innovation and Research Program.
