Schlage Growing in Central Indiana

If the commission grants preliminary approval to the project Wednesday

Schlage Lock Company LLC is planning to add more than 150 Marion County jobs over the next four years. The global security product manufacturer is looking to pump over $13 million into its Indianapolis manufacturing and research and development capabilities.

Schlage, which is a subsidiary of Ireland-based Allegion plc (NYSE: ALLE), has more than 500 employees at its facilities on the county’s east and northeast sides. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. and the city of Indianapolis are expected to consider incentives for Schlage.

The company says most of the positions will be manufacturing, assembly and management, while about three dozen will involve R&D. The IEDC says many of the new jobs are expected to pay higher than the state’s average wage.

The parent company announced the location more than two years ago of its North American headquarters to Carmel. The move created 100 Hamilton County jobs. Allegion spun off from Ingersoll Rand as an independently-traded company in 2013.
