A well-known southeast Indiana candy maker is planning to double its footprint. The News and Tribune in Jeffersonville reports Schimpff's Confectionery LLC is adding retail and manufacturing space with the purchase and improvement of the long-abandoned building next door. The full project is expected to be complete by the end of next year.

Part of the work, additional retail space, is expected to wrap up within a year. The biggest phase of construction involves demolition of the existing structure and will help the company boost candy production.

The publication says the business is a considerable attraction, drawing as many as 1,000 tours of the facility per year.
