The Spencer County Visitors Bureau says the location receives more than 400,000 pieces of mail during the month of December.
The bureau says only about 13,000 pieces of mail per month are normally received at the location the 11 other months of the year.
The location has used a uniquely-designed postmark during the Christmas season since 1983. The artist this year is Indiana University freshman Olivia Hitz. Her mother, Cathy, lives in Santa Claus.
Postmaster Marian Balbach says "the Santa Claus holiday postmark has become the most popular in the nation over the past two decades. Postal patrons worldwide request the picture postmark each year and many customers traditionally drive hundreds of miles to personally obtain the famous cancellation on their holiday mail."
The town of Santa Claus has three special family weekends scheduled this year. They include: Christmas Dinner with Santa, the Santa Claus Land of Lights, the Santa Claus Arts & Crafts Show, the annual Santa Claus Christmas Parade and chestnut roastings.
