RV companies to lay off hundreds in northern Indiana

Three subsidiaries of Elkhart-based recreational vehicle manufacturer Thor Industries Inc. are planning to lay off approximately 450 people at various locations in Elkhart and LaGrange counties.
According to multiple filings with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the layoffs will impact workers at facilities in Howe, Elkhart and Middlebury on June 20.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notices, dated April 21, were filed by Heartland Recreational Vehicles LLC, Cruiser RV LLC, and DRV LLC.
Heartland RV said 147 workers will be laid off from six facilities in Elkhart and one in Middlebury. Cruiser RV and DRV are set to lay off 251 workers and 51 workers, respectively, from their facilities in Howe.
The companies did not provide a reason for the layoffs. Multiple requests for more information from Inside INdiana Business were not returned by deadline Monday.
According to the WARN notices, the affected workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights. The companies are also not providing any sort of separation assistance, the documents said.
Our partners at WSBT-TV in South Bend reported that workers at a Heartland RV plant in Sturgis, Michigan were also notified that the facility would close on June 20.
