A three-month billboard campaign has launched, targeting more than 3,000 workers in the county who commute outside its borders for jobs. The billboards are located along I-74, U.S. 52 and State Road 3 to draw the attention of commuters heading to the four outside counties that employ the largest number of Rush County citizens: Shelby, Marion, Decatur and Henry counties.
ECDC Executive Director John McCane says "every day, many Rush County residents work to provide for their families but the commute is at a sacrifice of time with their families. Our billboards will highlight the fact that Rush County commuters don’t need to make this sacrifice. Rush County businesses are seeking new talent, and our friends and neighbors could avoid the daily commuting stress while spending more time with their family and enjoying those things that are important in their lives."
The billboards carry slogans including: "Avoid the Rush Hour, Work in Rush County," "Spend Time with Your Family, Not in Your Car" and "You Would be Home by Now!"
The ECDC says the Rush County Job Opportunity page on Facebook, for example, currently includes over 50 openings.
