John Mutchner led the school’s men’s basketball team from 1963 to 1988, a tenure which included three conference championships.
During his 25 years as head coach, Mutchner recorded a school-record 341 wins and led the school to four NCAA Division III tournaments. The school’s 1976-1977 team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
"If somebody had told me 53 years ago that Rose would do this, it would have been beyond belief, beyond my wildest dreams," Mutchner told the Tribune Star. "I certainly appreciate it."
Mutchner is a graduate of Earlham College and has been inducted into the Rose-Hulman and Earlham halls of fame.
