The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded multi-million dollar contract boosts for Rolls-Royce Corp. in Indianapolis and Columbus-based Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI). The contract modifications, totaling more than $60 million, call for the production of new engines and support for aircraft propulsion systems.

Cummins will receive more than $25 million to produce 126 new 675-horsepower V903 engines, 60 reduced white smoke engines, and miscellaneous parts. Work on the contract will take place in Columbus and is expected to be complete by the end of June, 2018.

Rolls-Royce will receive nearly $37 million for long-term sustainment of propulsion systems for C-130J aircraft, including inventory control point management, repair, sustaining engineering support and technical data support. Work will be done in Indianapolis and is expected to be complete by October 31, 2017.

The U.S. Army Contracting Command in Michigan is the contracting activity for the Cummins award. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia is the contracting activity for Rolls-Royce.
