The board of directors for IndianaFIRST Inc. has unveiled the tournament host sites for its 2018 Statewide Robotics Competition. The tournament pits high school teams against each other for an opportunity to represent Indiana in national and international competitions.

The program currently has 48 teams registered to take part in three state district events. The top 32 teams will be selected based on awards and competition seeding to compete in the state championship event.

The sites for the 2018 tournament include:

  • Penn High School, Mishawaka – March 10 & 11
  • Plainfield High School, Plainfield – March 24 & 25
  • William Henry Harrison High School, West Lafayette – March 30 & 31
  • Kokomo Memorial Gymnasium, Kokomo – April 13 & 14 (State Championship)

"IndianaFIRST is building the next generation of problem solvers through mentorship, hands on learning, and intense competition," said Renee Becker-Blau, executive director of IndianaFIRST. "The students involved in the FIRST Robotics Competition program in Indiana have a 75% chance of going on to a STEM career. Students in this program are learning the skills that employers in Indiana want their employees to have."

Each year, the FIRST Robotics Competition features a specific game in which the teams must perform a specific set of tasks. The 2018 game is set to be announced January 6 during the FRC Kickoff event.

The tournament is part of a larger organization known as FIRST, or For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. You can learn more about the program by clicking here.
