Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton has appointed Scott Robinson director of the city’s Department of Planning and Transportation, pending approval by the Plan Commission. As assistant director, he served as team leader in the multi-year process of developing and adopting the new Unified Development Ordinance.

As the department’s planning services manager, Robinson led a similar, multi-year process leading to the adoption of the 2018 Comprehensive Plan. Among other key projects, he also played a lead role in the adoption of the Bloomington/Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan. Robinson will replace Terri Porter, who retired as director effective September 25, after leading the department since April 10, 2017.

He has been certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners since 2006 and the American Planning Association since 1999.  Robinson has been a board member of Downtown Bloomington Inc. since 2002. He holds a Master’s Degree in Planning from the University of Wyoming and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Biology from the University of Colorado.
