Road Closures Set For Eddy Street Commons Project

Subscribe NowThe city of South Bend is preparing for construction on the second phase of a major mixed-use project. The city has approved the long-term closure of Eddy Street beginning March 1 as work begins on the $90 million Phase II of Eddy Street Commons at Notre Dame.
Construction on the project is slated to run until summer of 2020. The second phase of Eddy Street Commons will include 8,500 square feet of restaurant space, 22 single-family homes, 433 apartment units, 17 "flex" units, a new Robinson Community Learning Center and a stand-alone grocery store.
The city says Eddy Street from Napoleon Boulevard to Howard Street will be closed for 20 months. St. Vincent Street between Francis Street and Georgiana Avenue will close during the same time. Detour routes will be in place 24 hours a day until construction is complete. You can view a detour map below.
Two graduate-style apartment buildings that are being built as part of the project are slated to open in mid-2019. The city says St. Vincent Street between Eddy Street and Georgiana Avenue will reopen that summer to serve the apartments.
