Riverfront Redevelopment Construction Manager Awaits Approval

Subscribe NowThe Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department says it will recommend The Hagerman Group to manage construction of the first phase of the city’s high-profile Riverfront Development. Phase one will focus on public spaces and will cost no more than $20 million.
The management contract is for just over $750,000 and will be introduced to the City Council Tuesday. Construction on the project can’t begin until three properties on Superior and Harrison streets have been acquired by the parks board.
The first phase will be located on the north and south banks of the St. Marys River between Harrison Street and the Wells Street Bridge. Plans involve features including:
- a promenade
- park pavilion
- event lawn
- entry plaza
- educational water feature
- central plaza
- terraces
- elevated boardwalk
- dock
- children’s play area
If the recommendation receives approval from the parks board Thursday, it could go back to the council for the final go-ahead December 13. Design work is being spearheaded by the so-called Riverworks Design Group, which includes Design Collaborative, Forum Studio, Hoch Associates, Engineering Resources, American Structurepoint and One Lucky Guitar.
