Ritz Names Teacher of the Year

A high school teacher from Logansport Community School Corp. has received a major honor. Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz has named Jitka Nelson, an English Language Arts, Developmental Reading and English Learner teacher at Logansport Community High School, Indiana’s 2017 Teacher of the Year.
Nelson has been a teacher for more than 25 years and has taught at Logansport Community High School since 2006. She will represent Indiana in the National Teacher of the Year competition.
"I am honored to recognize another outstanding teacher who has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for English Learners," said Ritz. "During her career, Nelson has demonstrated a commitment to high standards and individualized instruction that produces results for her students."
Nelson was previously named the winner of the 2016 Logansport District Teacher of the Year Award. The Indiana Department of Education says, during her career, Nelson has served as an instructional assistant and classroom teacher in the Czech Republic and Canada as well as the United States.
