INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz awarded federal School Improvement Grants to seven Indiana schools today. School Improvement Grants are awarded to schools that demonstrate a great need for these funds, as well as a commitment to use these funds to raise achievement levels in low performing schools. The total amount awarded to Indiana schools is over $8 million over the next three years. These grants are fully funded by the federal government.
“I am honored to award these grants today,” said Glenda Ritz, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction. “My department is committed to providing schools and communities with the resources they need to ensure that all Hoosier children receive an equitable and high quality education. These schools have demonstrated a great need for these funds, as well as excellent plans to improve student performance. In addition to these grants, the Department of Education will continue to provide high quality support through the Outreach Division of School Improvement to all schools throughout the state.”
The School Improvement Grants that were announced today are commonly referred to as 1003(g) grants. The recipients are:
-Stonybrook Middle School, MSD Warren Township: $1,850,000.00
-Fairview Elementary, Monroe County: $619,258.69
-Highland Park Elementary, Monroe County: $847,122.95
-Lake Ridge Middle School, Lake Ridge School Corporation: $738,388.07
-Chamberlain Elementary, Goshen: $1,750,000.00
-Sarah Scott Middle School, Vigo County: $948,829.85
-McCulloch Middle School, Marion: $1,750,000.00
-TOTAL SIG 1003(g) award: $8,503,599.56
