Riggs to Step Down as Indy Police Chief
Troy Riggs became chief of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department early in 2015.

The city has scheduled a news conference this morning at 10 a.m. with Riggs and Hogsett. In a statement, Hogsett called the year "challenging" and said:
While we are grateful for the innovative ideas that Troy brought to the table over the last eleven months, I have already begun the process of assembling a new IMPD leadership team that will build upon our efforts to reduce violent crime and protect our neighborhoods. I remain more confident than ever in the dedication and bravery of the men and women who proudly wear the uniform of IMPD, every single day.
Riggs served as public safety director under Hogsett’s predecessor Greg Ballard. He left the Ballard administration mid-2015 for a short stint as director of public safety outreach with the Indiana University Public Policy Institute at IUPUI. Hogsett announced in December 2015, he was bringing in Riggs as IMPD chief to combat a "public safety crisis."
