Ribbon Cutting Set For Hammond Sportsplex

Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott will Thursday join others from the community to cut the ribbon on the Hammond Sportsplex & Community Center. The $17 million facility features space for basketball, volleyball and soccer, among other sports.
Construction began in August 2017 on the 135,000-square-foot facility, located at 6630 Indianapolis Boulevard. In an interview last year on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, McDermott said the power of amateur sports and the success of other communities such as Westfield and its Grand Park Sports Campus, inspired the idea for the facility.
Some of the other amenities of the sportsplex include batting cages and an upper level track. The facility also features a community room for events and a concession area.
The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by tours of the new facility.
