Rexnord Details Layoff Timeline

Wisconsin-based Rexnord Corp. (NYSE: RXN) has unveiled details of when approximately 350 employees will be laid off from its Indianapolis plant. The layoffs will begin early next year as the company continues its plan to move the jobs to Mexico.
In a notice to the state, Rexnord says the reduction will occur in phases with the first round of layoffs coming around February 13. Further layoffs will take place through June. The notice adds the company’s plant on the city’s west side will be closed permanently.
Last week, Rexnord and United Steelworkers Local 1999 reached an agreement of severance benefits for the affected workers. Those benefits come in addition to Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett’s previously-announced assistance from the Carrier Task Force.
Rexnord announced the plan to move the jobs to Mexico in October, which USW Local 1999 President Chuck Jones called "devastating news." Hogsett and U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly (D-IN) spoke last month with Rexnord Chief Executive Officer Todd Adams and said the company was "unwilling" to reconsider the move.
