Rev, now in its sixth year, is a fundraising event for the Indiana University Health Foundation and attracts about 3,000 attendees each year.
The event will take place on the IMS grounds and this year will be co-chaired by 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan and his wife, Lauren. The couple was announced as honorary chairs in December and Kanaan said the honor adds an extra touch to the Indy 500 experience, saying the event "has become one of the most prestigious events of the Month of May."
Since its inception, Rev has raised more than $2.5 million, which IMS says has been used for injury prevention and critical care programs, such as a new mobile intensive care unit ambulance for the IU Health LifeLine fleet and support for the IU Health Emergency Medical Center at IMS.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Sports host Bill Benner, IndyCar driver Graham Rahal, who served as honorary chair of last year’s Rev event, said efforts supported by the funds raised at Rev have a major impact on the drivers.
"The infield care center, we know the effects that that can have on our lives, whether it be (fellow driver James) Hinchcliffe, who literally survived because of the care that he received on the spot or whether we go out of town and those doctors and nurses come with us. It means a lot," said Rahal. "To be able to support an event like Rev, to be able to give back, have some fun, eat some good food, it’s a perfect event and kicks of the month of May ideally."
