Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report Alliance Steel Corp. is proposing a $35 million relocation, which could bring 100 jobs with it. The company is bidding $925,000 on a 25-acre property where it is proposing a new 250,000 square-foot production facility and office space.
The Times reports plans call for the facility to produce an anticipated 250,000 tons of steel each year. Construction could be complete by the end of next year if approvals are met. A vote by the city’s redevelopment commission is slated for August 2.
The publication says the bid was received through a request for proposal process for more than 78 acres at 6200 Industrial Highway in Gary. The land was taken on by the redevelopment commission in a 2014 deal where the city acquired part of a 200-acre parcel that Carmeuse Lime and Stone purchased from Majestic Star Casino.
