There may be another delay in the $166 million Gary/Chicago International Airport expansion. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report an airport consultant suggested the project may not be finished until 2015 during a meeting with a local planning agency. The city is standing by a previously-announced September 2014 completion date. The completion date was originally moved to September 2014 because of higher-than-expected ground contamination. At the time, Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said she was “absolutely” confident the project would be completed.

The runway expansion will extend the airport's main 7,000-foot runway by 1,900 feet.
