Remodel Planned For Fort Wayne Animal Care

Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control has announced remodeling plans it says will increase its medical team’s level of care and efficiency. The nearly $300,000 project, which requires approval from the Fort Wayne Common Council, will include enhancements to the medical and triage areas of the shelter.
The shelter’s existing surgery suite was originally intended only for sterilization surgeries, but the agency says the shelter is now capable of more invasive medical procedures to save the lives of animals that otherwise would have been euthanized. The project will include the addition of a second surgical table, as well as a private space for forensic exams and animal autopsies in cases of animal cruelty and neglect.
"With two surgery tables like what’s going to be in our remodel that would expedite the process and we would be able to get through those surgeries much quicker which will open up time for our veterinarian to get through more medical exams, administering more rabies vaccines and more time to conduct cruelty and neglect case exams," said Laura Rowe, operations manager for Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control.
Plans for the project will be introduced to the council next week. The city says Animal Care & Control has offered to fund up to half of the project’s cost through a capital campaign.
