News Release
RICHMOND, Ind. – The newly redesigned Reid Orthopedic Center will open within a week, bringing Reid orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation therapists together under the same roof for the first time. Located at 1400 Highland Road in Richmond, the Center features a number of enhancements that will make patient care more convenient and accessible.
Six orthopedic surgeons have been seeing patients at the center since 2012. Construction began about 18 months ago, and was planned in such a way that disruptions to patient care were minimal. When the new facility opens on March 7, all nine of Reid's orthopedic surgeons will provide patient care there. The orthopedic surgery team also will include six physician assistants and a nurse practitioner. A new, fully staffed orthopedic rehabilitation therapy facility will open at the center on March 10.
“This new center brings all of our orthopedic services under one roof, allowing physicians, physician assistants, our nurse practitioner, imaging technologists and rehabilitation therapists to provide more coordinated and convenient care than ever before,” said Craig Kinyon, Reid president/CEO. “This regional center of orthopedic excellence will be a great asset for patients in our region.”
The project involved heavy construction (digging a retention pond, pouring concrete footers, building an addition) and a patient-friendly design, said Tonya Ross, Reid Orthopedic Center practice administrator. “The physician area has a pod design, which means that for every 10 exam rooms there is a workstation where doctors can view radiologic images on a large screen and discuss cases with other medical staff,” said Ross. “It allows for greater collaboration and efficiency, which means better care for patients.”
The completely renovated space also features:
-40 exam rooms
-A designated casting room for each physician
-X-ray and open MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
-Two surgical suites for outpatient procedures such as carpal tunnel repair
The center's rehabilitation therapy area will provide services for orthopedic patients only; other rehabilitation services will remain at 2021 Chester Blvd. in Richmond. Among them are aquatic therapy, stroke rehabilitation therapy, massage therapy and classes for Parkinson’s patients and those at risk for falls, to name a few.
Reid orthopedic surgeons will continue to see patients at satellite locations in Connersville and Winchester, Indiana, and in Greenville and Eaton, Ohio. Rehabilitation therapy will still be available in Eaton as well. All orthopedic surgeries requiring an inpatient stay will continue to take place at Reid Hospital.
In May, Reid Orthopedic Center will host an Open House that will include tours, physician meet-and-greets, and refreshments. To learn more about the center or to make an appointment, please call (765) 935-8905.
