Regional Cities Funding Secured For Two Projects

Subscribe NowTwo more southwest Indiana projects will receive state funding through the Indiana Regional Cities Initiative. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has approved a combined $2.5 million for the Warrick Wellness Pathways in Newburgh and a new facility for WNIN Public Media in Evansville.
The $10 million Warrick Wellness Pathways project involves around 12 miles of new trails in the form of six segments and four trailheads connecting locations including:
- the Warrick County Wellness Trail
- the Rivertown Trail in Newburgh
- Castle High School
- Castle Middle School North and South
- the Terrence A. Friedman Park
- the Victoria National Golf Club and Lifestyle Development
The work in Warrick County is expected to be fully-complete in 2020. Southwest Indiana Regional Development Authority President Beth McFadin Higgins says "in Warrick County, efforts are being made to take the theme of connectivity by designing a trail system that will be attractive to residents and especially to millennials who have a renewed interest in healthy living."
WNIN Tri-State Public Media, a partner of Inside INdiana Business, is planning a $3.8 million media center in the city’s downtown. It will include television and radio studios, a public theater and digital production studios. The project is slated to be complete by July.
Chief Executive Officer Brad Kimmel says "the new WNIN Public Media Center will become a more engaging community asset through the development of a new interactive cinema-style theater, a radio music hall, and an improved reading center for the more than 70 volunteers who come each week to read newspapers to the sight impaired."
The Regional Cities proposal from the Southwest Indiana RDA includes 11 projects it says could unleash a total of $926 in investments to boost quality of place in four counties.
