The EPA awarded $200,000 for environmental job training programs to help local residents find work in the environmental field. The organization offers services to support workforce training and job placement for people who were formerly incarcerated.
The green jobs training will focus on preparing workers to reduce contamination and provide sustainable futures for communities most affected by hazardous, and solid waste contamination. “EPA is pleased to provide funding to help RecycleForce continue its vital, transformational work in Indianapolis,” said EPA Region 5 Administrator Cathy Stepp. “EPA’s job training program is a win-win for the environmental workforce and for their communities.”
RecycleForce President Gregg Keesling says the EPA award would help with Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act training. “Never in our long history of serving this population has an EPA workforce grant been more needed and more timely.”
The EPA program has awarded nearly 300 grants since beginning in 1998, with over 17,000 completing the training, and of those, over 12,500 were placed in full time work. For more information on the EWDJT program, visit here.
