The Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority’s board has voted to support more than $250,000 in Regional Cities Initiative funding for a project in Huntington. The Little River Trail project includes additional trail construction and a new pavilion.
The project involves the construction of more than 4,100 additional feet of multi-use trails, streetscape improvements, wayfinding signage and other trail amenities. The total cost of the effort tops $1 million. The proposal now goes to the Indiana Economic Development Corp. for final approval.
RDA Board Chairman Jeff Turner says the project is a "creative example of the region’s progressive leadership on the Road to One Million." That initiative, which aims to grow the region’s population to one million, is at the center of northeast Indiana’s Regional Cities Initiative efforts. It includes more than 70 projects and $1.5 billion in investment over the next 10 years.
During its meeting, the board also heard a presentation from Manchester Early Learning Center, which is requesting $520,000 in Regional Cities Initiative funding for a new learning center. That project’s total cost comes in at about $2.6 million.
