Executive Editor of The Indianapolis Star Ronnie Ramos is stepping down to “pursue new opportunities.” IndyStar reports Gannett Co. Inc., the parent company of the publication, will launch a national search for Ramos’ successor.

Ramos first joined IndyStar in 2013 as sports director before being promoted to managing director and then to executive editor.

“Ronnie has a passion for powerful, community-minded journalism and a commitment to embracing new ways to tell important stories,” Rick Green, Midwest regional editor for the USA TODAY Network and Ramos’ supervisor told the newspaper. “The Star has benefited greatly from his leadership as he rose the ranks to top editor.”

According to the publication, Ramos was the first minority to lead IndyStar’s news operation.
