The $470,000 in funding will support Indiana Railway Museum Inc.’s restoration of passenger rail cars and development of the city of Jeffersonville’s Arts and Cultural District.
IOTD Executive Director Mark Newman says "the Indiana Railway Museum and the City of Jeffersonville are both committed to the development and the improvement of their respective areas. That’s why IOTD’s Destination Development Grant Program was created, to make destinations more desirable to visit and to live."
The $250,000 grant to the French Lick-based rail organization will support increased train service between French Lick and Jasper and the refurbished train cars will offer dinner train service, corporate and private dinner service and additional special events. The $220,000 grant to Jeffersonville will support work space for artists, makers, historians and investors in underutilized buildings, as well as greenspace in an effort to make the district a regional attraction.
