Subscribe NowThe Indianapolis Motor Speedway has announced the pace car driver for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Jeffrey Dean Morgan has played prominent roles in several television shows, including the villainous character "Negan" on AMC’s "The Walking Dead. IMS officials Friday morning will unveil next year’s Indy 500 logo. Friday is also Carb Day, which includes events such as Steve Miller Band and Barenaked Ladies concerts.
Morgan has appeared in more than two dozen feature films and a wide range of TV shows, including the roles of "Denny Duquette" on ABC’s "Grey’s Anatomy" and "Jason Crouse" on CBS’s "The Good Wife."
The pace car itself will be a 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Pace Car, which includes a 460-horsepower LT1 direct-injected V8 engine, and can go from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Sunday will be the 14th time a Corvette has paced the field of 33, making it the most common model for an Indy 500 pace car.
Drivers are slated to start their engines for the 101st Indianapolis 500 Presented by PennGrade Motor Oil at 12:25 p.m. Sunday.
