Pure Green Farms Lands California Company Investment

A hydroponic indoor farm in South Bend is getting a boost from California-based Taylor Farms. Pure Green Farms, which has built a four-acre greenhouse that grows pesticide-free greens, says the investment from the salad and healthy fresh food producer will help address increasing demand for local product offerings.

Taylor Farms produces salads and other types of healthy foods that are sold in grocery stores nationwide.

Pure Green Farms’ high-tech operation in South Bend allows for greens to be grown untouched by human hands until they reach the consumer’s kitchen. While Taylor Farms is not disclosing the amount of its investment, the company says expanding into greenhouse-grown offerings will complement its existing 122,000-crop are field grown program.

“We’re excited to venture into the industry of indoor growing with this investment,” Bruce Taylor, founder and chief executive officer of Taylor Farms, said in a news release. “Our customer partners have asked for a national solution and this is our first step.”

Pure Green Farms is located on a site that could potentially expand to up to 300 acres. In a March interview on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, CEO Joe McGuire said the company plans to branch out its distribution efforts, particularly after securing $30 million in funding last year.
